A Water-Based Battery Glue Could Make Lithium Batteries Easier to Recycle

UC San Diego engineers created a fluorine-free battery binder from two cheap polymers linked with citric acid, replacing toxic solvents with plain water. Batteries built with it matched conventional performance, held capacity longer, and the electrodes could be recycled by simply soaking them in water.
