The FDA Approved the First Heart Valve That Grows With Children

The FDA approved Edwards Lifesciences' Autus valve on October 1, the first heart valve designed to expand as a child grows, from 13 mm up to adult size via a balloon catheter. In a 62-patient trial every child was free of device complications at 30 days, and the polymer leaflets could spare kids from repeat open-heart surgeries.
