Microsoft's Diagnostic AI Outscored Doctors on Complex Cases
Microsoft's MAI-DxO, a panel of GPT-5 models, correctly diagnosed 83% of 304 complex cases from the New England Journal of Medicine, against 22% for physicians relying on their own knowledge and about 24% with resources. On emergency cases it scored 80% against 47% for doctors, at roughly $1,300 a case versus $4,700 and up. The results come from text-based simulations in a paper in Science rather than a hospital deployment, and Microsoft is now evaluating the system in hospitals with Beth Israel Deaconess.

A news site with millions of readers and a Microsoft deal turned out to be an AI chop shop
BNN Breaking had millions of readers, an international team of journalists, and a publishing deal with Microsoft. It was actually an AI chop shop pumping out error-ridden content. The masthead was real; the newsroom was not.
