Half a Million Wolbachia Mosquitoes Take Flight Over Barcelona to Fight Dengue

More than half a million male mosquitoes carrying the wolbachia bacterium have been released in Barcelona, the first large-scale release of its kind in Europe. Males are sorted by AI image recognition and their matings produce eggs that never hatch; in Singapore the same approach cut dengue cases by about 70%.
