A Power Plant on an Underwater Volcano Made Net-Positive Electricity, a First
Seattle startup Endurance Energy landed a 3-ton power plant on an underwater volcano 300 miles off Oregon and generated more electricity than it consumed, the first net-positive run of subsea geothermal power. The team also drilled what it calls the world's first offshore geothermal well, a 52-foot borehole flowing at 260°C nearly a mile down.
