A Gentler Clot-Removal Catheter Won FDA Clearance for Lung Clots

The FDA cleared the University of Michigan's Hēlo Thrombectomy System, a catheter that gently sucks lung clots in, thins them with a spinning agitator, and vacuums them out instead of dragging them through fragile vessel walls. It gives doctors a safer, minimally invasive option for pulmonary embolism, which kills 60,000 to 100,000 Americans a year.
