Students Built a Headset That Warns Blind Wearers About Obstacles
Team InnovateZ, students aged 13 to 15 from MRSM Bagan Datuk in Perak, Malaysia, won Samsung Solve for Tomorrow 2026 on Oct. 27 with TheVisionSense, a headset that uses LiDAR and ultrasound sensors to detect obstacles and give real-time audio alerts. The team built it for people with newly acquired visual impairments, who are still learning to navigate without sight. The students said they chose the problem because solutions for people with visual impairments get too little attention.
