Solar Panels Over California Canals Cut Evaporation by Up to 70%
Project Nexus, a 1.6 MW pilot covering Turlock Irrigation District canals with solar panels, measured evaporation reductions of 50 to 70% and 85% less algae growth over a full irrigation season, while the water below kept the panels cooler and more productive. Covering California's canal network could one day save an estimated 63 billion gallons a year.
