Independent Data: Waymo Robotaxis Crash 68% Less Often Than Human Drivers

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found Waymo's driverless vehicles involved in 68% fewer police-reportable crashes per mile than human drivers across four cities, with 85% fewer single-vehicle crashes and 81% fewer injury crashes. Rear-end crash rates were 91% lower, judged on 50 million driverless miles from 2021 to 2024.
