DeepMind Agents Found a Way to Attack Old Encryption 1,600 Times Faster

AI agents built by DeepMind with UC San Diego and Inria found an algorithm roughly 1,600 times faster than the previous best for attacking 1024-bit RSA encryption, and made batch factorization about 30 times cheaper per key. The work was announced in a social-media post rather than a paper, and it affects only legacy 1024-bit keys; modern 2048-bit and stronger encryption is unaffected.
