AI Cervical Screening Reached More Than 50,000 Women in Nine Countries
A study in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Women's Health tested an AI-supported screening strategy across Brazil, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Eswatini, Honduras, Malawi, Nigeria and Tanzania. Women gave self-collected samples for HPV testing, and a deep-learning algorithm assessed cervical images for those who tested positive, finding more than 500 severe precancerous lesions and enabling a same-day screen, triage and treat model in places where screening coverage is below 15%.
