A Solar Mini-Grid Ends 17 Years Off the Grid for a Nigerian Town

A 1-megawatt solar mini-grid with 2.4 MWh of battery storage was commissioned in Talasse, Gombe State, serving 6,028 connections in a community that had gone more than 17 years without national grid power. The project also adds electric groundnut oil processing, a rice mill, and electric tricycles, while construction began on four more mini-grids totaling 16 MW nearby.
