A Brain Interface Let Paralyzed Patients Speak and Gesture at the Same Time
A UCSF brain-computer interface decoded speech and upper-body gestures simultaneously for the first time, letting paralyzed patients drive a full-body avatar that talks and waves and gives a thumbs-up. Published in Nature Neuroscience and funded by the NIH, it restores a fuller, more natural kind of communication than text-to-speech alone.
